Manu National Park
The Manu National Park is one of the most pristine natural areas in the world, by far the richest and most extraordinary biological transect in the Amazon basin, it covers a wide altitudinal range from Andean grasslands and cloud forests down to foothill and lowland forests, between 150 to 4,200 m.a.s.l (492 to 13,779 ft), this Park is home to an unrivalled variety of animal and plant species, with over 1,000 species of birds, among hummingbirds, eagles, macaws, parrots, etc, and 200 species of mammals among monkeys, giant otters, tapirs, capybaras and jaguars that are often seen in the park. The park is inhabitted by different native groups as the Matsiguenkas, Yaminahua, Amarakaeri, Mashcopiro and others, all of them have contact with the outside world, except the Mashcopiro that subsist fishing and hunting along riverbanks and lakes deep inside the forest.
