ITINERARY

Day 01 : Cusco - Cloud Forest
We will pick you up from your hotel and departure to the Cloud Forest on our comfortable car, we travel south east trough small Andean villages during the journey we see different landscapes and wildlife, we make some stops for photo opportunities in a group of pre-Inca “Chullpas” or funerary site and in the colonial village of Paucartambo, them we reach the Acjanaco Pass 3,550 meters (10,820 ft), the entrance to the Manu National Park, there you will have a first over view of the eastern slopes of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, there we have the lunch enjoying the nature around us, down you will observe the amazing change from the grasslands to the Cloud Forest of the Manu National Park with its unique biodiversity. In the early afternoon you will arrive to the lodge, them we have chances to spot cloud forest birds and with luck brown capuchin monkeys and common woolly monkeys along the road.

Day 02 : Cloud Forest- Madre De Dios Lodge
Wake up early in the morning to see the beautiful Cock of the rock on the Lek where more than 15 males are gathering to dance and sing attempting to attract the dull colored females, after the display we have a delicious breakfast at the lodge, them we leave by car to Atalaya village to board a  motorized boat for a 6 or 7 hours journey down the Madre de Dios River to Madre Dios Lodge, arriving in the afternoon, to explore some of the forest trails that surround the lodge. On these trails you have excellent chances to find different wildlife which inhabits the surrounding forest specially monkeys and colorful birds.

Day 03 : Madre De Dios Lodge - Salvador
After the early breakfast we board the motor boat for an unforgettable experience going up the Manu River, along the way you may will spot different species of birds such as the Boat-billed heron, Cocoi heron, the Snowy egret, Great egret, White-winged swallows and others, you will also have chances to spot Black caimans or white caimans and mammals like the biggest rodent of the world the Capybara, the lunch will be on board, after 7 hours approximately we arrive to our camp and spent the afternoon walking trough the pristine forest in some of the trails around the lodge.

Day 04 : Salvador Oxbow Lake & Otorongo Oxbow Lake
After the breakfast at the lodge we will spent the morning at Salvador Oxbow lake in a catamaran, this is one of the most beautiful lakes in Manu area, we have excellent chances to spot aquatic wildlife, like Giant River Otters, Black caimans, turtles, Hoatzins, egrets, and different species of monkeys, after two hours in the catamaran we walk in the trails around the lake, come back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we will explore Otorongo Oxbow Lake which has a rich biodiversity, from the 15 meter tower we have an excellent view of the lake and chances to spot the family of Giant River Otters that inhabit this lake and other aquatic wildlife, we will explore some trails around this Oxbow Lake.

Day 05 : Salvador – Manu Wildlife Center
We board the motor boat after the breakfast going down the Manu River; once again we enjoy the nature that surrounds us, the wildlife; maybe a jaguar appear, after 8 hours approximately we arrive to Manu Wildlife Center lodge. In the afternoon we will have a walk toward the mammals clay lick, where we will spent some hours especting to have a good view of the Tapir this nocturnal and shy being is the biggest terrestrial mammal in South America, we have chances to see other wildlife as well.

Day 06 : Macaws Clay Lick And Blanco Oxbow Lake
We board our boat early this morning and head down stream along the Madre de Dios river, to the only large parrot and macaw clay lick within the Manu area. As we arrive, hundreds of parrots and macaws are gathering noisily to access the rich mineral clay. We will spend a few hours watching them from a blind, having breakfast whilst enjoying the show. This is one of the most impressive spectacles of nature: hundreds of parrots, dozens of macaws as well as countless other smaller birds feeding throughout the morning on the clay lick which will supplement their diets of seeds and fruits with necessary minerals. In the afternoon we have a visit to Blanco oxbow lake where we have chances to spot the Giant river otters family that inhabit this lake.

Day 07 : Manu Wildlife Center – Cusco
After the breakfast enjoying the rainforest sounds, we board the motor boat for the two hours return trip to the Manu landing strip, from which you fly to Cusco, this is your last trip along the river and you still have chances to spot more wildlife.
